PHJC - India: A Brief Introduction.
The congregation founded by Blessed Mary Katherine Kasper had a simple beginning on Aug 15th 1851 with 5 members. It is now an International congregation spread in 9 countries.
In India, it took root in 1963 with the first 7 courageous Indian young women arriving at Dernbach, Germany to be Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ.
In 1970, November 25th, having 35 professed members, the General council decided to begin its mission in the Catholic Hospital, Dhani, M.P. India.
Today it has spread to 21 convents with around 191 Professed members with varied ministries growing from a Region to a Vice- Province and then Province status.
Today We Have Two Province In India; St. Mary’s Province (South) and St. Joseph’s Province (North).
Sr. Josephin PHJC is the Provincial Superior for St. Mary’s Province (South) and Sr. Grace PHJC is the Provincial for St. Joseph’s Province (North).
The charism of the Foundress is spread through the field of health care, education, social work and pastoral service to thousands of people. Through several seminars, conference, professional education, quality of formation of members and the possibilities for economic self-sufficiency enabled the members to envision strategies and pave a solid path to march ahead united, fueled with sisterly love towards success and development.
